Art = Design + Communication

I believe that art is design and communication. Design is how you divide the paper using shapes, line, values, colors, sizes, directions and textures. The resultant painting then should transmit your thinking and feeling to others. When I look at your painting I want to see you. No one will find our work interesting unless we find our own work interesting. Show me the kick you get out your contact with the rugged Maine Coast. The rocks of Maine are worn smooth with the treading of artist’s feet. Bask in the crisp Maine light while hearing the sounds of surf, seagulls and the “Yo heave ho” of the sailors.

 I enjoy demonstrating a wide variety of approaches with an emphasis on a creative concept—something more than a mere duplicate of the motif. Drawing upon my six decades of painting experience, I will be available to help you in any way in one-to-one consultations. At the close of each painting session we will critique each painting by way of not only finding faults but also enjoying the positives.

 While each of us is welcome regardless of our level of expertise, we will come together expecting and eager to improve our work. As an instructor, I find that interaction with others who wish to improve themselves encourages me to a more intense commitment to art.
